If you knew and loved the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport of previous model years, Buerkle Hyundai has some exciting news for you - the beloved, five-passenger SUV is getting a bit of a makeover and a new name for 2019, although it's still the same safe and reliable model you've always appreciated.

Starting for model year 2019, the favorite, two-row crossover SUV is dropping the word "Sport" from its name and will now be known simply as the Hyundai Santa Fe. Where does that leave the larger, three-row model that was called Hyundai Santa Fe? It's now called the Hyundai Santa Fe XL, with the "XL" a nod to its larger size and seven-passenger capacity.

One thing that hasn't changed, however, is the terrific safety track of this family-friendly SUV. In 2018, when it was still known as the Santa Fe Sport, this model was named a "Top Safety Pick +" from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety. Now, renamed the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe, we're proud to say this crossover is still an IIHS "Top Safety Pick +." Also, it's not alone. A number of other great Hyundai models have also been distinguished for their safety records by IIHS.

As with previous versions of this versatile SUV, the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe is equipped with a standard, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine rated for 185 horsepower. However, new for 2019, this engine comes paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission, a change from the previous version's six-speed auto. Driver's also have the choice of upgrading to a more-powerful 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 235 horsepower if they want, as well as the option of either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
