Meet the Redesigned and Refreshed, 2020 Hyundai Sonata

35 years after its initial debut on American roads, the Hyundai Sonata is still going strong, delivering a ride that's smooth and responsive, and an interior that's spacious and well-equipped. At Buerkle Hyundai, the Sonata has long been one of our favorite cars to recommend to St. Paul, MN drivers with distinct taste, and we're thrilled to bring you the latest generation of this model line, the seventh generation that kicks off with the 2020 Hyundai Sonata.

What's New for the 2020 Hyundai Sonata?

As the model that launches a whole new Sonata generation, there's a lot to know about the 2020 model year. This is a car that's completely refreshed and reinvigorated, and Minneapolis and White Bear Lake drivers should plan on seeing it in person to fully absorb all the virtues and benefits of driving this new model.

The first thing longtime Sonata fans will notice about the 2020 model is the design. This car has been overhauled and redesigned, presenting Roseville, MN drivers with a sleek and sophisticated sedan that stands out from the crowd. Not only has the 2020 Hyundai Sonata frontend gotten a facelift with LED headlights and daytime running lights, the entire car rides on a completely different platform. This new platform makes the Sonata refined and sharp, with new dimensions that include:

  • An overall height that is one inch lower
  • One inch wider
  • A wheelbase that's pushed further apart, giving the car two more inches lengthwise

A redesign you'll notice coming from a distance, there's a lot more going on inside the car that makes it one of the most remarkable new models in 2020.

Under the Hood of the 2020 Hyundai Sonata

The 2020 Sonata gets more standard power from its base engine to go with its stunning redesign. Whereas previous model year versions received 185 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque from a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, the 2020 model gets a similar engine system, except now it puts out 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque.

Looking for an upgrade? The 2020 Hyundai Sonata also has a more-powerful engine available for upper trims that Inver Grove Heights drivers will appreciate. A turbocharged 1.6-liter engine, this available option delivers slightly less horsepower, at 180, but packs on the torque, giving you 195 pound-feet of torque.

Trim Level Options for the 2020 Hyundai Sonata

Another place where Hyundai has reinvigorated the Sonata lineup for 2020 is in its list of available trims. The carmaker has streamlined our range of choices from six trims to four, and each one delivers a robust collection of standard tech and safety features that other sedans in this class would struggle to keep pace with. Trim options include:

  • 2020 Hyundai Sonata SE, the base model comes with cloth upholstery and a slew of sought-after safety features, including forward collision avoidance, pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, driver attention monitor, and a rearview camera with dynamic guidelines. It also meets your needs for staying safely connected behind the wheel, with the latest technologies for smartphone integration standard.
  • 2020 Hyundai Sonata SEL, the next trim in the bunch has a sportier feel and personality, giving you a unique exterior design that includes a dual-tip muffler, front sport fascia and rear sport fascia. It also adds blind spot monitoring to the list of safety features and a number of exciting creature comfort features, such as heated seats and a hands-free trunk release.
  • 2020 Hyundai Sonata Limited, powered by the upgraded, turbocharged engine, this model gets leather upholstery and upgraded tires, as well as reverse automatic emergency braking, parking sensors, and a multi-angle camera system added to the list of safety features. Many luxurious amenities are also included here, including ventilated seats and ambient interior lighting.
  • 2020 Hyundai Sonata SEL Plus, as the top-of-the-line trim, this car more than meets your needs for safety and tech features. Its sporty personality is highlighted by the zippy, turbocharged engine, and it comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, LED taillights, wireless device charging, special aluminum pedals, an automatically dimming rearview mirror, a panoramic sunroof, and much more.

Connectivity, Technology, and Comfort Features

As you can see, moving up in trim levels can help Sonata drivers customize their vehicle with as many or as few features as they want. Plus, Hyundai has two exciting packages available and a long list of top-quality, standalone features. But you don't have to move up in trims or request add-ons to get a fully equipped sedan that meets, and exceeds, your needs. Each model has an incredible array of features as is. A few of our favorite highlights include:

  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, standard for all trims
  • Bluetooth and USB connectivity, standard on all trims
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control, standard on the SEL and up
  • Satellite and HD radio, standard starting at the SEL level
  • Navigation with 10.25-inch touch-screen display, standard on the top trim, SEL Plus
  • Smart Park assisted parking
  • Digital Key
